Former Detroit Ad Execs Launch Wind-Powered, Paperless Agency
The Marketing Square, LLC, Pairs Tech Whiz and Journalist in Website Services Company
WINTER PARK, FL. — Former Detroit advertising agency executives Rebekah Brown and Jonathan Maue recently launched The Marketing Square, LLC, a website services company based in Winter Park with an office in Beulah, Mich.
“Our server is powered by wind,” said Maue, a Michigan State University advertising graduate who lives in Beulah. “Currently, three to four percent of electricity consumed worldwide is for data centers.
“So when we looked for a partner for our website and our clients’ websites, we went with one that could provide clean energy. As we look towards the future, we intend to purchase ReNewable Energy Credits for our offices.”
The Marketing Square builds websites and provides search engine optimization, hosting, e-commerce, social media, video, TV commercials, public relations, advertising, strategic content and other services to entrepreneurs to drive traffic and sales.
“We’ll get you Google ranked in a day so clients can find you.” said Brown, an advertising, PR and events specialist with 13 years of experience producing Fortune 500 client campaigns and 13 years as a journalist with newspapers that included The Detroit News. “Resist the urge to build your own website.”
Maue and Brown frequently rebuild sites that had no way for search engines to find them.
“Clients see your site before they meet you,” Maue said. “If your site works improperly and looks unprofessional, clients won’t forgive or forget it.. If you don’t know coding, you won’t be found online and you’ll never get any business.”
The Marketing Square has been managed solely through digital means. Brown and Maue haven’t seen each other in-person since 2002 while co-workers at an ad agency in Southfield, Mich.
“We do everything digitally,” said Maue, an advertising and Internet professional with 14 years of experience building websites and producing commercials for ad agency Fortune 500 clients. “We haven’t sent a piece of paper between us. We work with clients on Skype conference calls and in-person from our two offices.”
Brown worked for a PR firm and a sports marketing agency but left to became a full-time novelist and freelance writer. She needed technical support for clients, called Maue who had established expertise building websites for his company Maue Designs and The Marketing Square began.

“Be industrious, keep that do-it-yourself spirit,” Maue said. “But when your website crashes or you don’t have any traffic it’s not fun anymore. We rebuild and redesign websites to perform. Everything is carefully created to drive commerce and build brands.”
