I look at Twitter before I check my e-mail.
I’ve followed interesting sources so I can read at a glance what’s going on. Anytime.
If I want to know more I’ll click through the link.
I’ve also kept garbage followers off my Tweets.
Be selective
Don’t follow just anyone and don’t let them follow you. You’ll get their garbage on your Twitter feed.
That means you shouldn’t get excited because you have 10 new followers. Find out if they are spammers. If they’re selling crap and saying free, tips, sales…likely spammers.
Follow quality sources of information and if you’re interesting, they’ll follow you.
Image is everything
If a Twitter follower shoots out an offensive Tweet and it shows up on your feed, it speaks to your image. Volumes.
Get them out of there. They may curse, use X-rated language, link to porn sites or worse.
Watch and read what followers Tweet. Stop them before they embarrass you or your business.
Watch for spammers
When you see that someone has 10,000 plus followers LOOK at their followers. Many are spammers or neophytes.
Celebrities or news-worthy people, topic, brands, etc., have real, true followers. Check for yourself.
Twitter has has close to 190 million users putting out 65 million Tweets monthly. You’ll run into a few freaks following you and sharing way too much–and on your Twitter feed.
If followers are trashing up your Twitter feed block them. If you don’t know what they do, it”s a reason to get rid of them.
Be patient
If you have all day to Tweet and read Twitter, you’re either very blessed with free time or you’re 13.
It takes time to build a relevant, tasteful following.
It helps if you have something worth following which does not include what you ate, where you are or that you’re tucking into bed for the night.
There are good followers and garbage followers so be selective and be patient.
