Many people judge business pages or brands by the number of people who Like the business and likewise Follow the business on Twitter.
Ridiculous.
Pressure to win social media Liking and Following contests is misplaced. Social media is only one part of what a business should be doing to reach prospective clients and consumers. ONE.
Multiple advertising avenues have to be used to reach consumers and businesses. And there’s a chance that target audience is NOT on or using social media. Research and figure it out.
Spending an inordinate amount of time on Facebook and Twitter is not rational marketing. It’s also unrealistic. Business deals are done in-person, on the phone, over time and with social media support.
It’s crazy to put all advertising and marketing efforts into one passive, non-personal, online effort. It can be personal, it can be actively engaging and that takes a lot of time and work.
If it was easy, everyone would be doing it AND making hand over fist money.
Businesses should be using many methods to reach their audiences including public relations, events, TV, radio, digital publications, blogs. Produce newsletters, relationship marketing plan, grassroots, word-of-mouth and guerrilla tactics. The proper combinations will boost business and product awareness.
