You’ve got to start advertising somewhere online. Your competitors are out there. “There” is a brand new national market when you sell online through your website.
But if you’re selling online it’s important to advertise the website address so that people know that this is where to buy the product. You can’t just throw the website up, put up shiny pictures, some basic copy and cross your fingers.
It’s called advertising for a reason: it’s an activity. Advertising is important to supporting the website. Even with optimization you need advertising to promote your site. Do you know how many other sites are selling your products?
Better find out.
First-Time Advertisers get Google AdWord Credit
Google Ad Words has a great starter program offering first time advertisers a starter credit toward ad campaigns.
Google AdWord Ads are at the top of the page when you do a search.
Try a Google Search now and look in the upper right hand of the search results page. Those are Google AdWords.
And don’t say, “I never look at those ads.” YOU are not YOUR target audience.
How Google AdWords Work
- You create an ad for Google AdWords
- You bid for best placement
- You control your cost per click
- You guess on what words will pull your business up in a search
- You bid on where you want your ad to land
BUT Google gives everyone a chance. Bids alone don’t determine placement: good ads win. Bad ads can improve placement with higher bids, but ultimately they can’t define–by paying more for placement.
Depending on how carefully built the ad is, how carefully calculated your guess on what words will be relevant to your business, your placement on a page can exceed a poorly constructed ad.
Sounds like a plan right? Write the ad carefully, bid the least, pick the right words, get the most for your investment. Unless your ad sucks.
What’s a Good Google AdWord Ad
Would you click on this Google AdWord Ad?
The money invested isn’t wasted…it’s the only ad on the page. But they could have paid less and made more impact.
Why don’t you click on it? You’re the target. Is it because there’s a typo in it. Can you find it?
